Do it with passion – or not at all

I grew up in the mountains of North Carolina and now call Munich home. I have been passionate about photography since a child. It is a passion that has been passed down in the family, just like my grandfather’s Leica iii. He bought it in 1934 and used it extensively (as the many albums and boxes of photos prove), my father shot with it when I was growing up and now I am proud to be the one that presses the release. As a teen, I bought my first own camera (a Canon A1 I still use) with my first self-earned money.  I spent summer’s in the dark room developing my films and learning many old-school tricks that can now be accomplished with a click of a mouse. After starting my own advertising and design agency, I retired my cameras for a bit. In this time, I worked with many renowned photographers on numerous shoots all over the world (especially for the music industry) and observed and learned. Now, I am very happy to be back in the game – chasing that special moment, that fantastic location, that spectacular light.

I love this job and everything that comes with it. I appreciate the people I meet, the places I go, the hours I keep, and the spontaneity in every shoot. I appreciate the raw reality of everyday life, the fleeting beauty of those in-between moments, and I do my very best to take every picture with that in mind.

“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… It remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”
Aaron Siskind

“My life is shaped by the urgent need to wander and observe, and my camera is my passport.“
